About us

Stegra is on a mission to disrupt the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the end goal of bringing down CO2 emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal; water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitalized, and sustainable plant in Boden, located in northern Sweden - currently in construction phase. Surface Inspection Engineer

We're looking for a motivated and curious Surface Inspection Engineer to join our team in Boden. In this role, you’ll work with advanced vision-based inspection systems that detect and classify surface defects during manufacturing processes. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers, quality teams, and production staff to improve product quality using cutting-edge machine learning tools and techniques.

This role is suited for both newly graduated students and for those who have worked a few years with specifically surface inspection engineering.

What You’ll Do

• Learn and support the setup, development, and optimization of surface inspection systems
• Apply machine learning and computer vision knowledge to improve defect detection and classification
• Work with quality and production teams to identify and solve surface quality issues
• Assist in training team members on using and understanding inspection system outputs
• Help develop tools and processes for communicating defect data across the production chain
• Contribute to maintaining high safety, environmental, and quality standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (completed or graduating this year) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• Experience from coursework or projects in machine learning, computer vision, or data analysis
• An interest in applying technical skills to real-world industrial applications
• Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Willingness to learn and grow in a production-oriented environment
• Previous exposure to manufacturing or materials processes is a bonus but not required
